Art direction and EP launch collateral for a soft indie album by Mira Blaese.
Brief
Written by an online creative brief generator I was tasked with the following: Create music cover art for an indie band which focuses on themes of mental health, appealing to millennial and gen z target market. With this self initiated project I set out to work on my art direction, animation and merchandise design skills and combine this with my passion for music cover art.
Scenario
Mira Blaese, a soft indie artist, is releasing her debut EP Whatever it is, it’s yours digitally and on vinyl. We need a conceptual cover design and accompanying merchandise concepts. These must reflect the EP’s themes of life being a healing journey through which self reflection and mindfulness can help with the challenges of mental health.
See my project REGULAR FLUIDS which takes this brief but places a dark and unsettling twist on it for a different outcome.
Approach
The inspiration for this identity is rooted in the subject of the EP which documents life as a journey or an endless path. A pathway which is individual, ever changing, challenging at times and sometimes needs reflection in order for you to grow as a person.
Research led me to observation techniques used in police investigations. Particularly the string and pins placed over maps which are used to mark and follow the movement’s of people over time - much like this album. An abstract visual concept representing the individualism of peoples pathways in life was born using and strings of different weaves and line vectors of different strokes.
